Media-Presentation Tips & IR-PR Info from Media Training Worldwide May 27, 2003

Contents 1. Presentation tips 2. TV Media Tips 3. Crisis Tips

Speaking/Presentation Tips

1. Don't just focus exclusively on friendly faces in the audience; look at as many individuals as possible.

2.	Pause…frequently. It works for Paul Harvey.

3.	When possible, reference something that is in the news today.

4.	Demonstrate with examples whenever possible.

TV/Media Tips

5.	Be able to say everything you want to say in 30 seconds with no more than three points.

6.	Use any extra time you have in an interview, whether it is 2 more minutes or 60 more minutes fleshing out your 3 main points and giving more concrete examples.

7.	Don't chew gum.

8.	Don’t ask what the questions are going to be.

9.	The reporter does not work for you as a PR flack. Instead, ask what the general subject areas are going to be.

Crisis Communications

10.	In a crisis situation, prepare just as you would in any other media opportunity (only more so). Have a three point message, speak in sound bites and stick to your message.
