Media-Presentation Tips & IR-PR Info from TJWALKER Media March 15, 2002 TJWalker.com

Contents 1. Presentation tips 2. IR/PR professional events

TV/Media Tips

1. Be careful about popping your "p"s into the microphone. (when a "p" is formed by your mouth it causes a forceful gush of air that can explode into the microphone)

2. If you are in studio with a host who is ripping you apart, don't be afraid to sit closer and touch his arm and smile-it will be harder for him to be nasty to you.

3. Don't react to the energy level (high or low) of your host. Focus on the energy level you wanted and planned.

4. When you are on TV you are not giving a public speech. You are having an engaging conversation with one or two people.

5. Don't wear clothes with stripes, they tend to "dance" around on the video screen and can be distracting.

Speaking/Presentation Tips

6. If there is a microphone, use it. Don't assume that you can speak loud enough for everyone to hear.

7. When given a choice, always speak first. The audience will be fresher.

8. To emphasize a point, don't yell. Instead, pause. Or whisper loudly.

9. During Q&A, don't say, "That's a good question." It wastes time, doesn't convey anything and implies all the other questions are stupid.

10. Cliches work great with the media but make you sound unintelligent when delivering a speech

Now, MDS Broadcast Services has developed "News Talkers," a breakthrough, low-cost approach to audio and video for public relations purposes. http://click.email-publisher.com/maaaiEMaaRtjoaaaaaab/ 800-MDS-DATA.

NEVADA
PRSA Luncheon
Date: March 22,2002
Time: Noon - 1:15 p.m.
Description: The Las Vegas chapter of the PRSA is hosting a luncheon, "A Look Into the Crystal Ball," a glimpse of new and future communication technologies and their impact on PR and advertising.
Today's consumer faces an overwhelming number of media choices and advertisers have a multitude of ways to target their audience. Personal video recorders (e.g., Tivo), inter-programming devices (e.g., the TV Guide Channel), digital cable and satellite television are just a few examples of new media that are changing the way we do business.

With so many options available, it's difficult to determine how consumers are obtaining information, which technology is best, and what media opportunities/challenges lay in the future.

Initiative Media (IM), the world's largest media planning and buying agency, has conducted extensive research on these issues and will share their insights and conclusions. Their presentation, "A Look Into the IM Crystal Ball," is designed to give PR professionals a better understanding of how today's consumers are receiving messages, and tips on how to communicate more effectively.

The cost is $20 for members, $30 for non-members, and $35 at the door without a reservation. To register, visit www.prsalasvegas.com or e-mail the address below.
