TV/Media Tips

1. If you are anywhere near a camera, assume it is on and recording every word and action.

2. Don’t wear stripes on TV.

3. People shouldn’t judge you by your appearance, but they will.

4. If you do or wear anything distracting on TV, people will remember that and nothing you say.

5. Every TV anchorman, soap opera actor, sitcom star and talk show host on TV is made up and groomed for TV. Unfortunately, this is whom the TV audience will compare you with.

Speaking/Presentation Tips

6. The fewer numbers you use in a speech, the better people will remember what you are communicating.

7. If music is being piped in to the room where you are about to speak, ask for the music to be shut off.

8. Always be prepared to start your speech early--the previous speaker might not have arrived.

9. Make sure your handout materials are free of misspellings.

10. Make sure your pants are zipped up.
