If you want to know how you look on TV, videotape yourself being interviewed and then watch the tape with the volume off. 2. If you are being interviewed by remote and there is a TV monitor next to the camera, dont glance over at it to look at yourself while the interview is going on. You will look shifty eyed, nervous and weird. 3. It doesnt matter if your interview is 60 seconds or 60 minutes long. You should communicate everything you need to in the first 30 seconds. Any additional time should be spent expanding your basic points. 4. Dont wear tinted glasses. 5. If you normally wear glasses, get glare proof glasses or have your existing glasses glare proofed. Speaking/Presentation Tips 1. The bigger the room you speak in, the slower you must speak. It takes time for the sound to bounce around the room. 2. If a point you make isn't worth the time it takes to give examples for it, then it's not worth making the point in the first place. 3. If you do have to use notes, don't use them in the first 60 seconds of your speech. 4. If you try to memorize your speech, it will only make you nervous because the chances are so high that you will get off track. 5. Instead, you should familiarize yourself with your message and your stories. Have an upcoming media interview or speech that you need to rehearse? This is especially true with television. In this workshop, participants -- whether PR practitioners or representatives of their employers or clients -- will spend time on camera answering questions and watching themselves on videotape. They will be in the proverbial media hot seat, the lights in their eyes and the microphone in front of their face. They will also learn the ground rules for appearing on TV to maximum effect. In four hours, they will learn what they need to know and do to meet the press head on and successfully. More specifically, participants will learn how to develop a message; bridge to message points; handle crisis communications; reduce nervousness; create sound bites; strengthen body language; improve wardrobe; use makeup; and generally master the mechanics of on-air delivery.
